The second release in The Queen’s Beasts Collection celebrates the Unicorn of Scotland. As a powerful symbol of strength and beauty, it’s easy to see how the unicorn has come to be used in heraldry. A symbol of Scottish heritage for centuries, the Unicorn also features on the Royal Arms of Her Majesty The Queen, which unites the four home nations.

The coin weighs one ounce and is 24-carat (.9999 purity). It is worth noting that as this is classed as British currency, this coin, like many other British coins, is VAT-free and is exempt from Capital Gains Tax (CGT).

Like all coins in this Queen’s Beasts series both the obverse and reverse are designed by Jody Clark. The Queen's Beasts coins are based on the ten statues which stood guard outside Westminster Abbey for the Queen's Coronation in 1953. They were originally sculpted by J. Woodford RA in 1953 and represent the various houses in the Queen's ancestry. Over the past five years the Royal Mint have released 10 coins, each representing a heraldic device used by one of the houses in the Queen's lineage.

The sixth release in The Queen’s Beasts Collection celebrates the Falcon of the Plantagenets. The falcon was originally adopted as a badge by Edward III of the House of Plantagenet. It was later inherited by Edward IV, who made it his personal emblem, depicting the falcon standing within an open fetterlock. The fetterlock, initially shown as closed, was slightly opened to symbolize Edward IV's struggle to claim the throne—he "forced the lock and secured the crown."

The coin weighs one ounce and is 24-carat (.9999 purity). It is worth noting that as this is classed as British currency, this coin, like many other British coins, is VAT-free and is exempt from Capital Gains Tax (CGT).
