About the Fed Cup
The Federation Cup, now shortened to Fed Cup, was launched in 1963 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the ITF. An American team led by Billie Jean King won the inaugural title at The Queen’s Club in London, and the event has continued to attract the best players in the women’s game. USA won its 18th Fed Cup title - but first in 17 years - when it defeated Belarus 3-2 in Minsk in the 2017 Final. USA is the most successful nation in the competition. Czech Republic is second with 11 wins, Australia is third with seven, then Spain is fourth with five.
About the ITF
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) is the world governing body of tennis, administering and regulating the game, and is responsible for the Rules of Tennis, including the technical specifi cations for courts and equipment. The ITF controls the major international team events, including the world’s two largest annual international team competitions in sport, the Davis Cup for men and the Fed Cup for women.
