Blake Angliss Impresses With Double Oulton Park Ginetta Podium

Blake Angliss has continued his great start to the 2022 Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 SuperCup season, with a pair of top three finishes at Oulton Park this past weekend (11/12 June) continuing his 100% class podium record for the year so far.

With confidence high following a brilliant double class victory during the season opener at Brands Hatch last month, Angliss made the trip to Oulton Park hoping to further showcase his impressive progress in the series and banish the demons of a tough outing at the Cheshire circuit last season.

A frustrating Friday saw a number of red flag stoppages during free practice limiting him only a handful of laps on old tyres. That made his performance in qualifying the following morning all the more impressive in his Rosland Gold Racing by Century Motorsport Ginetta G55 GT4.

Entering the session late as the team dodged some rainfall in the early stages, Angliss pulled out a blistering lap time with his final lap of the session to secure the G55 Pro class pole position for a second meeting in a row.

Lining up in seventh overall for the opening race, the Coventry based racer was left to rue a slow launch in his Ginetta. Immediately slipping to second in class, he kept tabs on the leader throughout the race but was unable to regain the lost position and settled for second at the finish.

Angliss targeted another good points haul in race two on Sunday, which was televised live on ITV4. With his two main rivals having the advantage of running new tyres, he knew it would be a tough ask to challenge for top honours and turned his focus to safely bringing home another podium finish in third.

Blake Angliss: “It’s been a bit of a strange weekend. With limited laps and no new tyre run on Friday, I felt like we came into the weekend less prepared than I’d have liked, so I was even more delighted to have been able to pull out pole position in qualifying.

“Unfortunately I made a bad start in race one and with overtaking being tough in these cars on this circuit, I had to settle for second in the end. With the other two drivers taking their new tyres for race two, it was another case of just picking up the best result I could in the circumstances.

“Ultimately, two more podium finishes and a strong haul of points is still a good conclusion to the weekend. It’s also been a chance for me to see my progression over the last year, having gained over a second on my quickest race lap compared to Oulton in 2021.”

Angliss, who races with the crucial support of Rosland Capital, Transend, Haigh Group, Splodge Hygiene, Lifeline, Empire RV and Icom, now faces a seven week break before he races again at Knockhill in Scotland  on 30th & 31st July.
